Example of vegetation management areas delineated within the Dry Creek enhancement reach.

Dry Creek, the largest tributary of the Russian River, is the focus of a long-term habitat enhancement program to help recover coho salmon and steelhead. Led by Sonoma Water in coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the program aims to enhance 6 miles of salmonid habitat and manage riparian vegetation within the Dry Creek corridor to improve habitat functions.

The Horizon team participated in field assessments and concept design development. Horizon prepared revegetation plans and specifications for more than 1 mile of habitat enhancements. Horizon also prepared vegetation community maps and a vegetation management plan for the 1-mile enhancement reach. Within this reach, vegetation will be managed to maintain low coverage of invasive species in close proximity to the enhancement areas, encourage channel migration and reactive floodplain surfaces, and promote age-class diversity to facilitate vegetative succession.
