The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) was considering repair and partial restoration of the Redwood Agricultural Inspection Station located on Highway 199 near Gasquet in Del Norte County. The building was designed by Alfred Eichler and constructed in 1934. Prior to conducting any work on the agricultural station, State regulations required that the building be evaluated for eligibility for listing on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) and as a California Historic Landmark, pursuant to Public Resources Codes 5025 and 5024.5.

Under contract with the California Department of General Services, Horizon’s architectural historian recorded the agricultural station and evaluated it for NRHP and California Register of Historical Resources (CRHR) eligibility, and as a California Historic Landmark. The evaluation determined that the station appears eligible for listing in the NRHP/CRHR, but does not meet the criteria for designation as a California Historic Landmark. Horizon also prepared the consultation package for the State Historic Preservation Officer.
